Introducing myself

Hi everyone,

Reenita Hora here. I am a South Asian writer of books, audio shows and screenplays.

My YA romcom book, 'Operation Mom - My Plan to Get my Mom a Life & a Man' is a three category finalist (YA, romance, humor) in the Chanticleer International Book Awards. My YA fantasy fiction story, Shadow Realm was a finalist in the Script2Comic contest 2022. I would love to see my stories on screen and am looking for producers and directors interested in diverse, female driven YA rom com stories and YA fantasy tied to Indian mythology and folklore.

If any of this sounds interesting, I'd love to chat!

Hi Reenita, I think it's great that you're tying in Indian mythology and folklore into your work! Authentic representation is so important for this industry.

Thank you David. I completely agree. There is so much out there on Greek, Roman mythology. I am thrilled to weave in the threads of South Asian mythology. I hope you will check out Shadow Realm. The log line/synopsis is on Stage 32 and my Season 1 podcast is out there www.thearyachronicles.com/podcast. All my stories are about the South Asian experience be it in in or outside of South Asia. Would love any thoughts or advice with regard to getting them out there.

Hi Reenita - it’s great to meet you here in the community. Your books sound really cool. Congratulations on their success. If you’ve ever thought about writing a pilot yourself based on your books I highly recommend Colleen Labella’s upcoming Stage 32 writing lab. Colleen is going to work with a small group of writers to mentor them and hold them accountable to write their female-driven TV pilot script. You’ll walk away from the lab with a completed script in hand based on one of your books ready to share with the marketplace. Here’s a link so you can see how Colleen has designed her lab: https://www.stage32.com/classes/Stage-32-Screenwriting-Lab-Write-Your-Fe...

Maurice Vaughan - thank you for the kind words. I know it sounds totally crazy but getting to the finalist stage and then not placing has been somewhat of a shattering experience. Each time, I a feel like "where do I start now", and am left to figure out how to pick myself up and go. The blogpost is extremely interesting. I have attended pitchfests before but back then, I did not have a full executed screenplay so every time they requested materials, I had nothing more than synopses and ideas that went nowhere. Perhaps I am in a better place to do that now having gotten to the stage where I am getting positive feedback. The referral issue is very interesting to me. I know that on Stage 32, if you get 'recommend' as a writer and for your script then this can help, but in my most recent instance, I got excellent feedback but no score with regard to development even though this is what I had hoped for and was expecting given the option I had selected for coverage. I was confused about that.

Sam Sokolow - thank you for pointing me to Colleen's class. i did look at that recently. I have actually written a screenplay for Operation Mom. It is a finite story with a beginning, middle and end so I don't think it lends itself well to a series. That said, I do have other ideas in. mind and am considering a series for my another project.
