Need Advice!

Hello Lady's and Gent's, I'm a prior service member who's new to this talented business and recently got approved to start classes at the New York Film Academy, as a smart consumer i decided to do my homework an began asking questions among does in the industry and what i end it up with was a dilema, i got told that NYFA would not be able to get me into acting once finish graduating and that i should approach the Bizz by attending a school known as THE FILM CONNECTION, they said i will be able to work withing the business and have better access to auditions that way. as most of you guys are vet's in this talented competative business i would love to hear what you guys think of it, i still have time to back out of it and maybe consider else where. thank you have a bless day!

Sarah Louisa Burns

Go to NYFA. They have clout, name recognition, and their grads actually get work. Good luck to ya.

thank you very much Sarah for taking the time, i tough the same since i had heard celebs. mention the name before. im schedule to start in the spring long term classes. thank you once more.

This is a hard one, I known people who went to various acting schools and say it's a waste of time and money. While others have not gone to acting school and wish that they had. It's something YOU have to decide for yourself and stick with your choice. But either way, good luck with your classes!

Forget the acting schools. Total waste of money. I've been working as a background actor, extra, here in NYC for 5 months and I've learned more doing that, and I'm getting paid (not a lot, but I get free food at crafty) for it, too. Just do what I do: 1) Get job as background actor 2) Submit to do theatre or student films (free, or very low pay, usually) a few days a week, in order to get acting experience. 3) Continue working as a background actor (extra) in order to pay bills. Doing this, you'll meet hundreds of talented actors, musicians, theatre types who are talented and passionate, so the networking makes it worthwhile. Feel free to donate $150 at my website for saving you the thousands you'll spend at an acting school. Visit my website and follow the recommendations that I write about at my blog about how to get more work as a background actor in NYC. It's a lot of factors to consider, school is great but before I just jump right in I would look at my options. To be honest an actor fresh out of school will not make enough money to support his self and to make a reasonable amount of money to make student loan payment for the 1st 2 years on acting alone.

thank you all for you're comments, im very appreciative since im a ammature and you guys's are vets in this talented/competative business, im a prior service member and the goverment is going to pay for what ever school or training i choose to attend. i decided not to attend NYFA since i have heard so many negative things in regards to this, i will continue to network and hope to make good conections and hope to land some type of work even if it is for credits and experience only. i thank you all and you all and if oyu have any referrals or any other advice you can give me i would appreciated!!! may you all have a bless day and a lucrative new year!!!!

If you go to NYFA you will get to work within the structure of other classes there with students in film production. They are looking for actors to work in their projects. The instructors have them use students in the acting classes who have head shots in the books in the school. It's a start and if you work well with these directors in other classes, I'm sure it will lead to more work. I have seen some of the actors go on to jobs in television as well. agood luck with it.

For every person that tells you what you don't need and what they can do for you there's someone else having the time of their life doing what they love. A guy just tweeted this about an hour ago. The New York Film Academy, Los Angeles. All we do is eat, breath, live filmmaking. #NYFA http://instagr.am/p/WlGRmfJm_s/

You can find plenty of student film ads all over online forums - getting unpaid experience is easy. Classes won't hurt, and I think going to acting school, particularly NYFA (which has a terrible rep - yes, it's well known, in a negative way) is a waste of funds.

thanks Kev, and i have heard allot from others. im looking into attending the Film Connection for what i looked into they offer alot more.
