From what I learned from my Scriptwriting Teacher, really study the conventions of the genre you want to write in. Find out how you can fit in it, improve it, or break the rules for it while still maintaining the overall genre feel. But good luck! I wrote a horror and it's more difficult than one things at first.
Thanks, Trista, good advice. I feel like I really have to stretch myself, but I like being pushed out of my comfort zone. Thanks again for your response!:))
I think you have to think as a businesswoman. As a business, the product (script) has to appeal to most of us. Is the story a piece of creativity... that is just a little personal? Do you think the main characters will have that sex appeal of a Jamie Lee Curtis? Can you go the extra mile in create anxiety and unexpected twists? Would help to get people's criticism of your draft. But, hey! You gave the first steps in writing a future screenplay. Good luck! Joseph.
