Anything Goes : Stage 32: Better than Facebook. by Simon King

Stage 32: Better than Facebook.

We all know Facebook and Twitter. Perhaps, like me, you have other forums or blogs you follow and post to on a regular basis. For me, it is a site focused on climbing in Yosemite Valley, California. But on all of these social sites I have discovered (too slowly at times) that the posts and threads are nothing more than glorified bragging. Sure I still go to my FB page and I still post in on the climbing community but over the past few months I have found myself spending more of my available time on Stage 32. The reason why is simple: This site, and more importantly the people on here, have SOMETHING VALUABLE AND INTERESTING TO OFFER! Sure there is some bragging and begging but there are also plenty of talented people who have valid and valuable opinions and theories about every aspect of the filmmaking/theatrical crafts. Until Stage32 members start posting videos of cats and informing the rest of us where they are going for lunch this is the place for me!

Simon King

Wow! And I am such a stickler for proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. I tried to change it but I guess you can't edit titles. Oh well, catchy isn't it?

Daniel Dore

I agree. FB and Twitter can be good if you have your company and want to let people know which projects you're working on or such things, but this site is really the best to find and communicate with people in the movie business. I've already had several contacts and made some very good connections with interesting people from my region as well as others from around the world. You just never know when that might come in handy.

Emmanuel Duchez

Yes Nate, most cats and other animals are much more clever and interesting than most humans ! And I think of what I say

Tabitha Baumander

cats? >^+^<

Peter Bilodeau

I post to my own blog weekly (www.peter-writeforme.com). If I find other interesting sites to post to, I post. I love to think. I love to write.

I actually envy you for bringing this up before I did lol. I, too, happen to spend more time on here than I do on Facebook and Twitter combined. Like you mentioned, the people on Stage32 are very talented, but I also prefer coming here because I feel more connected to the members, as we share the same dreams and aspirations. Another reason is that I can feel the purpose of my goals through others' achievements; I can use fuel my desire to be more competitive and motivated.

Richard definitely brings informative, useful information to the table. I like this site, too.

Simon King

Diane... Did I miss something? Who is Richard?

Andrea Thompson

I love this post. Simon - Richard is the site's founder (Richard "RB" Botto). I have been a member of Stage 32 from the very beginning and I have met so many wonderfully talented and intelligent people on here and have seen some very deserving people reach their dreams. It's extremely uplifting and positive - quite refreshing from anywhere else on the internet. I don't even have any other social media profile because, like your post says, I don't care to see videos about people's cats or what their eating. Now, discussing the latest episodes of MAD MEN, or the brilliance of a new independent or foreign film, I'm all for it. I love hearing people's opinions about things from all over the world. This is definitely the place for me. Cheers to Simon and to my fellow 32ers!

Peter Bilodeau

Hey Simon...I was confused about who Richard was, too, but Andrea so eloquently explained it. I'm fairly new to the network, but am enjoying it more by the day. Incidently, I want to thank whoever invited me to join this network. I am not sure who it was, but glad to be a part of it.

Simon King

Thanks Andrea! I am now better informed.

Andrea Thompson

You're welcome! Looking forward to seeing you all around the "lounge" here.

Diane Racine

Andrea beat me to it.. Good.

Moniece Robinson

Totally agree with this! I love being on here and the quality of what people are posting is invaluable. So happy to have found so many like minded people! :)

Johanna Marshall

Thank you for posting your thoughts Simon. I totally agree about FB. I basically "compartmentalize" FB as a playground for the masses whereas Stage 32 is A Mass Creative Conference Room.....If anyone posted a pix of jewelry on "32" I would hope that they had a question or suggestions about a prop for a film!!!!!!!!!!!!

Armando Alejandro

Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, LinkedIn can be good advertising mediums if used properly, besides that, I only use FB to play Chess.

Jennifer Faith Ward

Agreed! I'm loving this site more and more. Another thing that sets Stage 32 apart from Facebook is that when there is an update, it actually IS an improvement instead of yet another detriment or hassle.

Cheri Dodd

What if it's a video of my cat acting in a commercial I scripted? Never mind...my cat would surely have an agent who says he needs to get paid and I'm too broke to pay the damn cat. So...no cat videos from me.

Emmanuel Duchez

Yeah ! Hi Cheri ! Excellent joke ! I love this kind of humor ! Friendly of Emmanuel

Peter Bilodeau

Hi Cheri: If you're too broke to pay the cat, what if the cat paid you? I'd love to talk to you about that. Let me know if you'd like to hear more.

Cheri Dodd

Ooooh! A "what if" man. I should have known you were a screenwriter! :-)

Peter Bilodeau

Hi Cheri: Great to connect with you. Incidently, being a "what if" man has taught me that being broke is temporary and can be fixed if one put his mind to it. While the actor's away, the cats will pay.
