Acting : Want to start acting by Michelle Doherty

Want to start acting

I've been in theatre productions throughout elementary school/high school, and I'm looking to get some acting under my belt for short films. I've always found acting very rewarding. Can anyone recommend anything? Or know of any small productions willing to cast actors with no previous film acting experience? Thank you :)

Start by training with a coach that specializes in film acting. Film & stage acting are two different animals. You need to learn how to work for camera before anything else. From there, you'll learn the ropes, make connections, and be able to pursue your goals.

Yes try applying to,tons of film schools, also apply for supporting artist work online type it , into google and see what comes up. Just get yourself out there, and get screen experience, before anything else.

Maybe this is something for you http://www.foundationacting.com/index.html (they teach based on Meisner Technique), I am no authority to say, but before anything just get a good foundation (where you can also have a lot of fun and experience a lot), then you can take it to the next level, worrying about industry, connections etc... Good luck! :)

Get good headshots, get on casting sites and start submitting yourself-student films are a great way to start

Definitely get headshots and submit yourself to student films. If you live in a major market like LA, Chicago or NY, there are probably casting websites you can sign up for and submit yourself to. But a good headshot is key as it is what you need to have in order to submit. Every actor began with a blank resume; for now, definitely list the plays you've acted in and as you build up film credits (including student films), you can add those to your resume. Acting classes are a great way to network and continue to train.

From a slightly different perspective... Over the years I have hired many, many models for runway and print work (fashion design) and I ALWAYS consider both professional talent and "wannabe" talent. I am always amazed and pleased at the undiscovered talent that is out there! Would you believe I hired one girl to work in a tradeshow booth and model footwear for me and she went on to HUGE stardom and fame (Julianne Hough.) Another one of my "discoveries" is now walking in NY Fashion Week and a third has a major role in a new major artist's music video. I would suggest making yourself known to the film studies departments at any local college and get involved with any local indie production regardless of how crappy it may be. You will be surprised where it all leads!
