Introduce Yourself : Can someone out there organize a co-pro? by Neil Lundy

Can someone out there organize a co-pro?

Hi everyone. I am looking for someone in Germany and the UK to present this Doc project to broadcasters in order to do a co-pro. It's already shot. thanks in advance. Neil Lundy Adventure Film Productions Canada HITLER'S REVENGE Our story opens with beauty shots of a German countryside then cuts to a town where citizens are having a celebration. We see a parade with a marching band and other festivities. The viewer is not yet aware of the town's name. This is just another charming German village where citizens are celebrating. After establishing this festive occasion and lulling the audience into the serenity of the event ......then ......................................... WHAM!! ..... Cut to a shot, taken in 1945, of a road sign that says ....DACHAU! With a series of quick shots from then and now we establish that this charming German town is indeed the infamous Dachau. (voice over with the appropriate footage.) Leading up to the German national election of 1932, Dachau, for almost a hundred years, was home to one of the world's best known artist colonies. Leading painters, musicians and writers like Thomas Mann, Rainer Maria Rilke and Emile Nolde were part of an artistic community that numbered over 700 by the turn of the 20th century. These artists influenced Dachau's citizens and made their collective disdain for Hitler obvious when less than thirteen percent of Dachau’s residents voted for the Nazis in the November 1932 election. Noted German historian Hans-Günter Richardi noted: “If the rest of Germany had voted as Dachau did, the Third Reich would never have existed”. In January 1933, Hitler was named Chancellor and a month later the Nazis declared martial law effectively dismantling democratic rule. In March 1933, in a vicious act of revenge, Heinrich Himmler, second in power to Hitler, commander of the Gestapo and director of extermination camps, chose Dachau as the site of the first Nazi concentration camp. Dachau is a town of firsts: it is home to the first concentration camp built by the Nazis, it housed the first gas chamber, the first crematory and it is the site where the first medical experiments on human beings were performed. Rudolf Höss, the infamous Auschwitz commandant, trained in Dachau as did Adolf Eichmann the evil mind behind the Final Solution. Dachau was the prototype for future concentration camps. Dachau is stigmatized as a town of horror and evil. Today many women choose to have their babies born in Munich so that the child's birth certificate won't have the word Dachau on it. Cars with Dachau licence plates are likely to have tires slashed or be vandalized when in other countries. This year, 2013 marks the 80th commemoration of the building of Dachau's death camp........ This is it's story. Shots of US soldiers in combat and then liberating the camp are shown with gruesome colour shots of emaciated bodies. We see Dachau citizens in 1945 forced to view the stacked bodies of inmates. Cut back to today in Dachau as interviewees voice their opinion. "But this has nothing to do with us now", says one young passerby. Interviews with various citizens address issues such as: Should the camp remain or be bulldozed over? What responsibility, if any, does a Dachau citizen have for what went on in their town? How do citizens feel about living in Dachau. The visuals go back and forth with rare footage showing the atrocities at the camp to modern day Dachau. In some cases footage laid over an interviewee's statement might challenge what he or she is saying. VISUALS Our visual researchers found a misfiled index card from an archive that led us to various shots in colour of stacked bodies in the camp. These never before seen images will be in our coverage of this story. This documentary will also have another visual first that has never been seen on television. In the Dachau camp stands a gigantic iron sculpture as seen below. Our crew shot this massive commemorative art work during a total eclipse of the sun. Dachau is a German problem, a native eyesore. Those who live there, most of whom weren't even born when the camp was in use, can't escape the stigma of a place synonymous with the world's first organized industrialization of the extermination of a race of people. This documentary focuses on the genesis of Hitler's Dachau and how citizens, these many generations later, deal with their birthplace. HITLERS REVENGE Points • 2013 marks the 80th commemoration of the building of the Dachau death camp. • Dachau is a town of firsts: the first concentration camp built by the Nazis, the first gas chamber, the first crematory, the first medical experiments on human beings. • Dachau was the prototype for future concentration camps. • Rudolf Höss, the infamous Auschwitz commandant, trained in Dachau as did Adolf Eichmann the evil mind behind the Final Solution. • The choice of Dachau as a camp location was an act of revenge by the Nazis because the townsfolk vigorously opposed Hitler's rise to power. Only 13% of the people of the Dachau region voted for him in 1933. • Before the stigma of the concentration camp Dachau was home to one of the world's best known artists colony. The colony flourished there particularly from 1890 to 1914. Dachau drew artists from around the world and painting styles from the area influenced modern 20th century works. • The camp site used to be an armaments factory but after the Treaty of Versailles the German government was forced to shut it down. • many women today choose to have their babies born in Munich so that the child's birth certificate won't have the word Dachau on it. • cars with Dachau licence plates are likely to have tires slashed or be vandalized when in other countries. • We have rare colour video of Dachau when it was liberated by American soldiers. This video includes very disturbing shots of stacked up emaciated bodies. We also have video that has never been seen before. Our crew was shooting the massive iron sculpture in the concentration camp during a total eclipse of the sun, a visually stunning sight. • We have a number of interviews with the citizens of Dachau. • We have interviews with US soldiers who liberated the camp in 1945. These interviews have never been seen on television. Our researchers also discovered a bombshell when preparing for Hitler's Revenge'. • When the 42nd and 45th division liberated Dachau US soldiers were horrified at what they saw. A number of SS troops were summarily executed by the liberators. This documentary goes after the truth as to how many German guards met their quick fate. • General Dwight D. Eisenhower issued a communiqué regarding the capture of Dachau concentration camp: "Our forces liberated and mopped up the infamous concentration camp at Dachau. Approximately 32,000 prisoners were liberated; 300 SS camp guards were quickly neutralized." An investigation resulted in the U.S. Military considering court-martials against those involved. However, General George S. Patton, the appointed military governor of Bavaria, chose to dismiss the charges. Therefore, the witnesses to the killings were never cross-examined in court. The investigation was declassified in 1987. • The report on the Dachau investigation tells a story that has gone virtually unreported in major newspapers and magazines. • More than a million tourists visit Dachau every year but city fathers complain that far less than half that number come into the town to spend money. • Dachau was founded in the 8th century. Approximately at the turn of the first millennium, the Romans conquered the area and established a trade road between Salzburg and today’s Augsburg. This route ran through Dachau. We have to convert to NTSC, view the footage, isolate the clips and edit the programme.

Thanks for your effort documenting this significant piece of history. The juxtaposition of the town and camp, then and now as an area of attention hasn't been particularly focused upon.
