In trying to get the idea of my rock opera in front of would-be producers I have been told on several occasions "..am interested, but you need to go via an agent." Any advice / experience on how to find the right one?

It's been my experience that an agent will only come to you AFTER you've already had some success...
I can believe that. So, looks like plan A is the route - get the project up and running regardless.

I have also had a suggestion to try crowdfunding, but am I right in thinking that it is only good for raising relatively small amounts of money?

I've not seen anyone successful at crowdfunding, have seen people beg family and friends but none reach the goal, maybe the webinar will deliver on the promise to give you the 'keys' to a successful one.
