Success Stories: OCT'15 I never met my co-writer...

I never met my co-writer...

Is it possible to co-write with a person you've never met? Apparently so. A little over a year ago I put up online ad for a screenwriter. Got a bunch of replies. Talked on the phone with the guy - he seemed nice. So we started co-writing over the phone and email (he's in L.A., I'm in Houston). We got along and the writing chemistry was there. Co-wrote a thriller script that went on to become a winner CWA contest in Horror/Thriller category. Still haven't met the guy! Now I really need to sell the thing so that I can finally have a reason to travel there and meet him!

Great news! I'm glad to hear such an inspiring story.

Wow.... well done Irina... good luck lass....

Hi Irina; I have a similar story. Met at an online dating service. Traveled to Maine for dinner(only dinner...-) and loved her story. Over the next two years I ghostwrote her story that became my optioned (and hers) script TABLES. Maybe there's a message here.... I find that it's almost easier to co-write over email. I have a local friend that I tried to co-write with but every time we'd get together we just end up chatting about unrelated issues and waste our time...

Irina Schmedes

Kathleen, that sounds familiar - we've gone on texting/emailing binges sometimes too. Writers always complain how writing is a lonely and isolating occupation, that's why I think it's so great to have a buddy to share the experience with.

Ron, I'm glad it worked out for you. I'm impressed that you traveled to Maine to meet her! My co-writer never traveled to meet me for dinner (even though he also claims that he fell in love with my story).

Ron Barenburg

That's a shame. To give your heart and soul to a project with someone, at the very least deserves a dinner, a drink, something personal to add to the experience. Writing is good, to make a friend is better. Ron

Then you are a lucky lady Kathleen. Good for both of you!

Very cool Irina..Collaboration almost ALWAYS results in the extraordinary, or at the very least, creative spins on an original idea.. I too seek collaborators on our current project. Cheers!

Best to your and your co-writer, Irina! I just did the same thing. Have been working with the guy for about a month. However, we only live about 30 miles away
