Music in movies

So how do people actually get musicians to do songs that are relevant to their specific movies?

Matt Milne

hire someone with talent. A talented composer should be able to look at a film, and instantly know the music you want in it. If you're a good director, your messages should be embedded within the film, and the composer should be able to pick those out and bring them to the audience without a second thought.

Sorry - I am like really dumb when it comes to stuff like this. I am merely a writer that hopes to one day get her novels into film. I was just wondering because there are a couple of movies I have watched where the music fits the various scenes perfectly. It was as if the songs was specifically written for that film. So I wondered how people go abut it ? Do they have bands line up for auditions and then give them pointers on what the songs need to surround or what ? I understand where a composer gets involved but what I want to know is where general popular bands get involved and how? Like Linkin Park - Bruno mars; Celine Deon in Titanic - you know things like that.

auditions, in mid post-production there isn't the time to be holding interviews, normally you select bands you like and then find one willing to do the film (usually for an outrageous amount of money). In the case of credit songs, the composer will organise the song and pick a band they like to perform it, as they would for any other cue in the score.

Wow - that's very interesting ...
