Short screenplay job opportunities abound for a writer. If you spend any time on the many screenwriting sites out there InkTip, Mandy, The Screenwriting

I need to look into some of those sites. Hrm. I suppose they're all pay, though?

Dan Goforth

2 are fee, 2 are free... and there are many others out there.

Awesome. When I'm through the stack of work I have right now I'll go check it out. Writing to order isn't hard for me. Thanks!

Dan Goforth

Laura, thanks for sharing that! Some great stuff and definitely worth everybody's time to check it out.

I would recommend 48 hour film projects as good practice BUT in practice, I've learned there are lots of teams out there that write their scripts ahead of time. By the rules it's cheating, but next to impossible to catch anyone on. Still, if you do write your script live, it will let you really know how fast your creative juices can flow and what kind of turn around time you're capable of. ex) Idea/Conception: Most of it in the 5 minutes after announcement of props, line, character, etc. the rest on the car ride home. Writing: ~45 minutes. Mistakes: Not giving it a rewrite or doing a shot list/storyboard after first draft. Anyhow, if you can find a team, I recommend it.

Kimberly Bird

Oh my God, yes. Not only are they awesome for the creative juices, 48-Hour Film Festivals is just plain fun as well :)

Alexandra Cohler

Great suggestions, especially for those of us who are newer to writing but curious about trying our hands at it!

Janet Biery

Intriguing.
