Internet over Film

Is the internet now the dominant place to make your own work or act? Do filmakers have a better chance of making films through the internet? Do actors recieve better exposure? Should we all be aiming for sites like Youtube for our big break? What do you think?

With the Net you can at least 'put your money where you mouth is.' Sorta speak. Publish your files and see if there is any interest or prove where you are at. No longer do you have to be a 'talker' waiting for that big break, to prove your stuff is worth watching. Along with that outlet may get your foot in the door for that big break... Got Reel? (Not you specifically; you being to those it may apply)

Streaming is the future, for better or worse.

Thats a tricky one. I don't turn to the internet for movies, but for cheap entertainment. The internet is so convoluted with videos that it would seem hard to stand out. I think even with streaming technology, the quality has been sacrificed for convenience. I've never seen a Netflix movie that looks as good as Blu-ray, and the look and sound of a film are very important to me. There are a lot of people who get recognized on YouTube or other video sites, but very few people use the medium seriously. Shooting a film with real actors and shooting yourself shooting your best friend in the arse with a dartgun and getting twenty thousand hits are two completely different things.

I once heard a great comment about the Internet. In a riff on Andy Warhol's famous "15 minutes" comment, this person (who I don't remember the name of) declared "On the internet, everyone will be famous for 15 people."

Shea Christian Reinke

Geek & Sundry uses the internet seriously. Table Top, excellent. The Guild, worth watching. I'd make a movie staring Nathan Fillion as Bladezz. Lots of vlogs available on Youtube, Shows on Hulu.
