Pitching a Screenplay!

I'm doing my first pitch tomorrow... I've got 8 minutes via Skype. Anybody got tips?

JC Young

Do you have your 'hook'?

D Marcus

Pitch it in four.

Linda Black

Pitch it in four... So keep it short and leave room for questions?

JC Young

Badda bing. Expect them to stop you at some point too. Don't let it throw you. In fact getting feedback is good. It shows Interest so don't ignore it

Linda Black

Good to know!! Thanks!

D Marcus

If you're pitching as part of a pitch fest feedback is good. If you're pitching to a producer you don't want feedback. You want them to want to hire you based on the pitch. The ideal pitch: you give then 30/40 seconds. The producer says, "Wow. Tell me more." Then you have them for the next three minutes.

Linda Black

It is a pitch fest session... So looking to hook them in the first minute and get some feedback then jump in. So start with the log line, or something else?

JC Young

I wouldn't just regurgitate your log line. Might sound stiff

Linda Black

okay, but need to get them hooked in a minute... A quick scenario of the hero and his challenge?

JC Young

Hook. Why is different? Why would someone pay $10 to see it?

Susana Orozco

Don't hold back the ending or the twists to your story. They need to know the whole film.

Linda Black

This is all great... Thank you so much Susana, JC, D Marcus. I'm feeling a lot more confident about this!

Linda Black

Wow! Thanks Joey... That is so great to hear!!

Linda Black

And I've got to say it really helped having this forum... The tips I got from Susana, JC, and D Marcus really helped me prepare my pitch!

Sandra Campbell

How did you pitch go, Linda? ---Sandra

D Marcus

I'm curious, too.

Linda Black

I think it went okay. I was nervous, but excited nervous so hopefully came across as passionate about the story. She did say that it was a good pitch, and if that's as good as it gets, for my first pitch, I'll take it. But of course, hoping it means she'll want to read the script. I really appreciate this forum and the tips I got, so thank you!

Sandra Campbell

It sounds like you got some good feedback, Linda. Having passion for your project is important, and it sounds like you do. Keep it up!

D Marcus

Thanks for the update.
