What bothers me about some of the VOD services, is that they take money upfront from indie filmmakers and offer nothing in return. For example, several of my friends dished out the annual fee of $199 for Vimeo pro, and have NEVER even closely broken even, over several years now using Vimeo. In my view they offer NOTHING in return for the money, and are a Big Ripoff! Very disappointing. Love and hugs, Geni
Vimeo is a platform, not a marketing service (although they do highlight a few projects). It's up to filmmakers themselves to market and promote their work, even if that means hiring professionals to handle that. What a filmmaker gets for $199 is pretty plainly-stated, so I wouldn't characterize it as a rip-off. I've been paying for Vimeo Pro for quite awhile and haven't even tried using it as an income-generating platform, but I still feel I've gotten my money's worth. I can't address other VOD services as I haven't used them, though.

Thank you for this info, it is time to take another web options rather than youtube and vimeo.
