Introduce Yourself : Leslie Rutkin by Leslie Rutkin

Leslie Rutkin

Hi Everyone. I just joined Stage 32 so am feeling my way. I've written my first book , Counting the Days: 366 Days in Prison. After 35 years commuting from Manhattan to a weekend home in Sullivan Co., NY, I've settled down in my country home to write more books. 'Counting' is a memoir about my cop husband's indictment on our honeymoon, his incarceration, and the 650 letters we wrote to each other while he was away. Everyone who reads the book says it should be a movie - but I don't have a clue how to go about getting the book in front of the right people. Another Stage 32 member, Yolanda Riggle, told me about this site. I'm very excited about meeting more members and educating myself and making more connections. I'm working on my second book, as well, a remembrance of my mom, starting with diaries I found from 1940 and later that she kept locked in a trunk in her basement. Good to be here!

Barbara Jean Barrielle

sounds fascinating - where can one find the book?

Richard "RB" Botto

Welcome, Leslie. Great to have you and your talents here on 32.

Is your book published? Self-published? Major book publisher? Do you have a literary agent? Are there reviews of the book from any significant press? Are film and TV rights available? Has anyone completed book coverage?

Leslie Rutkin

Thanks for your questions! I self published the book after a gazillion rejections from agents. I do have a great review but it is from my local paper, The River Reporter, which did a front page story. I wrote the book to exorcise ghosts and left it at that for a while. Now I'm in a writing group and we are doing readings and getting very positive feedback. I've also done web-radio and radio interviews in small markets which I haven't uploaded to my website. The site was created by AuthorHouse and not great. You can buy the book on Amazon or on the AuthorHouse site. Film and TV rights would be available. Not sure what your last question means about completed book coverage. And what do you do??

Robert David Kelso

JKRowlings harry potter got tons of rejections before someone decided they would give it a try, and she is just one of many who had to wait some time before they were published. In which medium did you publish, was it book or on kindle. It would not be hard to put it together as an eBook and I am sure people would want to give it a try here.
