Best way to raise money for an independant film

I wish there was a "best way" - a list of things you do to raise money that works for everyone for all projects. There are some steps that need to be taken; the script is first and you have that. Next you need a full, line item budget. That means a complete breakdown of all elements of the script from the obvious like cast salaries to the less obvious like expendables and insurance. A full schedule must be done to know how many days each cast member will be working. Preproduction as well as post production costs will need be included. Do you have that?

wow, no havent done that...ok, thanks

You're welcome. In order to raise money you need to know exactly how much you need to raise. People with money who are interested in investing in independent film have thousands of choices of projects. So the more accurate you are in how much you need the better.

fund it yourself. OR, put the expense screenplay back in the drawer and write one you can afford to shoot well and can be a commercial film .... Make that one and then , if you get it distribute and if it makes money, you can start yo approach people to invest in your projects. The key word is INVEST.... Unless you can get a grant the chances of finding someone to INVEST in a first timers project is slim to none since only about 1% of indie films ever see a dime on the backend. Finding a "name" actor for a first timer is equally far fetched... Yes, it can be done if you know someone personnel or have a personal connection, but actors are only as good as their last film, and any serious Professional actor will not put their career on the line for a first time director. Nor, BTW will the actors agent/manager all them.

The last Indie film I worked on raised most of their funds through Indiegogo. com
