Introduce Yourself : Reinventing myself by Piet Opperman

Reinventing myself

I am a retired consultant, working in the information technology and insurance fields for my entire career. One of my recent "hobbies" (about 15 years) has been researching a particular story, which revolves around a New York socialite and a German nobleman. I have amassed an enormous amount of detail of their lives by haunting newspaper archives, history books, and even museum pamphlets. The events take place in New York, Rome, Dresden, Africa, Lisbon and the First World War battlefields of France. It is the most extraordinary love story that I have ever come across. Truth really is stranger than fiction. Over the years, I have been enjoying telling this story to friends over dinner, sometimes embellishing it a little with the help of a few glasses of wine. Invariably, the reaction is: "You should write a book about this." I don't think so. I should write a movie script, because the story is so visual and dramatic, and the settings are so exotic and beautiful. I have started the script, and it is about 30% done. Now and again, my mind has turned to the idea that this could actually be made into a movie. I have absolutely no idea how to achieve that, and so Stage 32 seems to be a good place to scratch the surface of a world of which I know nothing. In the meantime, I remind myself: "One thing at a time." If I don't create a good script, then it will never be sold, that is for sure. Any helpful comments and advice welcomed with open arms!
