Need Advice

Hi my name is Natalie. I'm new to this site but not in the business. I'm an actress/ singer/ and produced and directed and starred in my short film.. And a lot of projects coming up. I have no agent anymore. I get all my jobs. Do I need an agent or manager?? Need advice.. I was told all I need is an entertainment lawyer???

Robert Cannon

I would be interested to know that as well. I have scripts done, but can't get anyone to bite on them. Maybe an agent or someone like that is the way to go.

Samantha Mann

I'd like to know this too, and how to get people to read my work when both agents and producers often refuse to touch "unsolicited" material with a ten foot poll.

Natalie Peri

I'm signing a movie deal soon.. I was told to get a entertainment lawyer. but was told to get an agent for negotiations!!! Because I got the lead role.... My last agent did crap. I get my own work etc, the salary I can't discuss. But if this deal goes through its good:)

Ami Brown

Alle - she meant she was new to Stage32, not to the business, not NEW to the business. (I think)

If you have been offered a big movie deal, most agents would be happy to sign and represent you. A good manager will work with an entertainment lawyer or firm and can recommend one. If any of your co-stars have agents, get a good recommendation, someone they trust already.

This is a good agency I have dealt with in the past. (They repped my son when he was young) They have offices in NY and LA. http://www.cesdtalent.com/

Thank you Ami your awesome!!! I'll check it out

Right now it's independent but the budget keeps going higher and higher which means more money for me!!! and the book is awesome and so is the script!!! Can't say what it is yet?? But I got the lead role which is awesome!!! Because the book is becoming a best seller!! So I'm so happy:) I'm not sure who does the negotiations lol!!!! But my old agent was crap I'm doing all the work myself so I fired him. Thank you for your advice

Royce Allen Dudley

Of the three, attorney is the most important. An agent can have value if they are good and put effort in but you must work with them. It also depends on what you want the agent to rep you for- actress, or director ? Finding representation for the former is easier than the latter... much easier. A manager comes into play when the career is your actual job and livelihood- if it's a part time occupation you may be able to manage yourself. I know East Coast is different than L.A. in many respects and I am L.A. so take my thoughts in context. Cheers

Thank you for your advice:)
