Mac is subsequently chewed by out the DEA deputy director (Ralston) for going in with out subpoenas and for blowing up the warehouse and it’s evidence contents. He is tired of Mac’s personal drug vendetta. Mac is assigned by Ralston to oversee a joint Colombian–American operation. He is warned not to be a participant in apprehending Carlos Escobar. A recon venture with Colombian Special Forces turns into an operations nightmare. MAC takes over and helps destroy Escobar’s secret mountain hideaway, killing Escobar who is equipped with James Bond style special weapons and a missile enhanced SUV. After Escobar’s demise the true players reveal themselves. Louis and Gilbert Herbert of the Cali cartel has manipulated the US government with the help of a rouge Swiss diplomat (Lothar). They plan to bring in a billion dollars of cocaine after they eliminate rivals to consolidate and control Escobar’s former Medellin drug Empire. Upon his return to the US an undercover operative (Maya) is introduced to Mac, who declines to take her information seriously. They share an immediate dislike for each other. After a botched drug intercept, Mac reconsiders and uses Maya as an upper echelon informant to the Cali cartel. Maya is caught snooping in sensitive computer files and the Hebert brothers decide to have her killed with rival Italian mafia drug lords. The brothers scheme to kill them on a moving train. The Italians are wise to the cartels tricks and fight back. Mac and his team intervene on the moving train and save Maya who has stolen a disc with important cocaine shipment and delivery timetables. The train implodes and is destroyed by an electrical power station. After Mac saves Maya, sparks fly between them and they become lovers. Mac reveals that drug dealers killed his parents and that when he was a special-ops Marine commander his team was ambushed by cartel members, this is the cause for his vendetta. The Hebert brothers order Mac and Maya’s death. One of the DEA team members (Sanford) and a close friend of Mac’s reveals himself as being on the Cartel’s payroll. He attempts to kill Mac and Maya and is foiled. Sanford and his wife and children are killed for his failure. Mac hides Maya and they decipher the computer disc information at the DEA’s HQ. The team investigates the cocaine shipments, which were to be hidden in “Harry Hippo” toys. The DEA finds nothing. A frustrated Mac is caught on TV beating a potential suspect and Ralston calls a halt to the investigation. Mac sends (Sheila) one of his DEA team members to trail one of the suspects, despite Ralston’s declaration that the operation has been officially terminated. The Swiss diplomat (Lothar) arranges for the release of one hundred crates of “Hippo toys” from US customs using his diplomatic powers. He is angered by one of the cartels thugs and makes an enemy of him. His anger at the henchman increases his greed; Lothar demands more payoff money, which in turn angers Louis. Mac finds out that Maya has lied to him about her involvement with the cartel and forces her to admit the truth, which is that her sister is being held by the cartel as leverage for her to keep silent about the cartels illegal activities. The cartel’s billion-dollar shipment arrives and they plan to distribute their product and pay off a new high level DEA informant. Sheila tails a cartel driver and finds the cartels’ corporate distribution center and informs Mac. Mac leaves to investigate the new information and Maya is captured. Mac is also captured as he investigates a cartel repair yard. Mac and Shelia are both sentenced to die after being interrogated. Sheila tries to save them and is captured. Sleuth work by another DEA team member (Ferrenzi) uncovers the Space One corporate center. In an action packed ending Lothar arrives for his increased payment. Ralston arrives and is revealed to be the turncoat high-level DEA member working for the Cartel. Mac makes a play to escape as Ferrenzi and the DEA assault the corporate compound. Individual firefights rage throughout Space One, until Mac gets the drop on Ralston. Ralston takes his own life rather then surrender. Louis and Gilbert are captured but to Mac’s distain, Lothar is let go by State department officials because of his diplomatic immunity. Sheila saves Mac’s life by taking a bullet from a wounded cartel member. She dies reminding him that there is more to life then vendetta and revenge. Louis and Gilbert are eventually deported and serve house arrest at a palatial Colombian compound. Mac is promoted to Deputy DEA director. The team listens in on a meeting of the new drug lords. Lothar has found Russian and Mexican players who are forming a new cartel, perpetuating the never-ending cycle of greed, drugs and death.
