Tyler Austin and his friends seek a place to practice their Skateboarding in an abandoned junkyard. The neighborhood bullies, Ricky “The King” Kincaid and his mountain bike-ing buddies The Marauders show up and harass Tyler and his crew. While skateboarding alone in the junkyard Tyler flies out of control over the fence that separated a secret scientific testing site. Tyler careens over the fence separating the test facility and the junkyard. Crashing through a window he smashes into and through nuclear compounds and chemicals. His skateboard bounces against a control panel activating a series of electronic ion-beams that combine all the elements in the Lab and create FREE RADICALS that are released from Tyler’s body. Tyler investigates his FREE RADICAL energy and finds that he is able to control objects with mental will power. Tyler is now able to control objects by telekinesis. As Tyler develops an understanding of his powers and FREE RADICALS, he begins to transfer them to his gen-x sports abilities. His sister Janie covertly observes Tyler using his powers and makes it her mission to prove that Tyler has “powers” and constantly tries to get him grounded. Tyler has several set backs as he tries to develop and control his new powers. Tyler and three friends to train together on skate boards, looking for a place to skate where hey will not be harassed. During training, Tyler learns that he has enough FREE RADICAL power that he can lend to one of his friends at a time. Using his powers Tyler and his crew build ACTION PARK. A topnotch new-age gen-x facility the whole neighborhood can play at and enjoy. Antagonist Ricky “The King” clandestinely spies on the group with his Marauder bike gang. Another source of irritation is the neighborhood roller-blade-ing genius, Freddy “The Freak” Fredrick’s. After a series of confrontations as to who will run the junkyard turf, Tyler challenges all the neighborhood upstarts including “The Freak”, and “The King” and his marauders to a neighborhood skate-off, to see who will run action park. Ragged on by his other skating buddies about his budding relationship with Venus, Tyler mans up and decides to be “her guy”. During this time three scientists have become aware of Tyler’s powers and watch him keenly. They’re gene sequencing program will upgrade human beings sensory capabilities and move mankind to its next evolutionary step. The scientist plan to run tests on Tyler’s powers and get the scientific data needed to prove their theories. Tyler shows up to attend the skate off and is bombarded by his friends with questions Overwhelmed he lashes out verbally and inadvertently hurts Venus’s feelings. Tyler’s dog is used as bait and he is tricked and then kidnapped by two Laboratory assistants who bring him to a secret location to be poked, prodded and tested. While being subjected to a battery of humiliating tests Tyler uses his powers to fight back, explosions and chaos ensues. The King and his buddies the Marauders try and cheat during the competition. Ricky spoils some of the competitor’s chances and cheats giving his Marauders an advantage. Tyler’s crew uses daring new athletic moves, blowing away the competition and earning the neighborhoods respect but they are not good enough to beat Ricky. Tyler escapes from the clandestine Lab and finds himself atop a damn that will break from the exploding Lab equipment inside of it. He uses his powers to freeze the break in the dam and ice over the spilling chemicals that have contaminated the water, threatening the town where he lives. With the entire face of the dam now frozen, Tyler “snow boards” down the dam to get to the skate competition in a hurry. Tyler arrives at the as the contest winds down. With only two minuets left before the neighborhood contest is to have been over the kid judges allow him one skate run. Tyler executes brilliant “Vert Skateboarding moves” with out using his Supa powers and wins the day. Supa-Dude and Crew celebrate with the neighborhood kids win over the local bullies. An older gentleman tells the kids that this junkyard has been his family for years and he gives the land deed to Tyler for fixing up the junkyard. Now skateboarding is no longer a crime, it has a home at “ACTION PARK”. A sympathetic Senator shows up and apologizes to Tyler for the scientist’s involvement with his kidnapping. The senator entreats Tyler for future help if the country needs it and Tyler agrees. Tyler makes up with Venus and all is well with the world. In a spectacular ending Tyler skateboards using his new powers. Climaxing he springs stories high in the air and spray paints the numeral “8” in the sky. SK8HARD is born.
