Paul has directed hundreds of national commercials and promos as well as written & directed original content for brands and corporations including HP, Sony, Kmart, HBO, Arm & Hammer, Glad, Showtime, ESPN and CBS. In 2013 Paul directed the new show for Epix, “Personal with Bill Rhoden” as well as the 2014 launch campaign for “House of Lies” starring Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell. He directed successful campaigns for Lifelock, St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Florida Lottery and the successful launch of Fox’s “New Girl” starring Zooey Deschanel. He recently won a CLIO award for directing the launch spot of Showtime’s “Episodes” series, starring Matt LeBlanc.
Raised in Philadelphia, Paul is a cum laude graduate of Temple’s Tyler School of Art, (BFA, Graphic Design). Upon graduation he moved to New York where his design and illustration work appeared in national publications including The New York Times, Institutional Investor and Black Enterprise. He was hired as an on-air designer at NBC. At 30 Rock he created promo campaigns and show opens for NBC Nightly News, Saturday Night Live and Movies of the Week among others.
From NBC Paul moved to HBO where he soon became creative director, Broadcast Advertising & Promotion. Working with a team of writer / producers and designers he helped create the look of the network with cutting edge promotion campaigns for HBO movies, specials and sports.
Adept at comedy and drama (Paul studied at The Stella Adler Conservatory and The Actors Studio) he moved into directing. Robert Greenberg of R/GA saw his live action reel and signed Paul to his new company, R/GA Live. At R/GA Paul further developed his graphics and special effects expertise by directing live action / effects spots for Twix, Sports Authority, Nikon, Old El Paso, McDonalds and the CBS Fall Campaign and Winter Olympics.
After four years at R/GA Paul formed Huge, his own production company in New York where he directed campaigns for brands including Yoplait, Disney, Dominos, Visa, Sonic, Paramount, Taco Bell, Clorox and a successful 20-spot national campaign for Glad Wrap for DDB Worldwide.
Paul’s work has received CLIO gold and silver as well as recognition from the Art Directors Club (NY and LA), The International Film and Television Awards, The Belding Awards, Best of Show and Gold from The Broadcast Designers Association. His classic Nikon “Alarm Clock” commercial was voted a “Top 5” Spot of the Year by Adweek.
Paul has created and optioned branded entertainment series ideas to TV Land, Fox and Vin di Bona Productions. He continues to write and direct TV commercials and branded content. With best-selling financial author Dan Solin, Paul created “Trade Up,” an informative and irreverent TV series about finance and investing for American Public Television (slated to air in 2014). Paul is a member of the Directors Guild of America. He maintains residency in New Jersey and Los Angeles.
