Barrett Dungy is an American film distributor and executive producer. He was one of the first pioneers for black voices in the industry, before the explosive growth of the Atlanta film market over a decade ago. He has worked with Tyler Perry, another early mover, when Tyler was first seeking a distribution partner for his soon to be popular stage plays as well as have Kevin Hart the opportunity to do his first standup special, “A Grown Little Man”.
After that, Barrett decided to venture out on his own after seeing the lack of response from Hollywood in distributing African American content. He created Urban Home Entertainment (UHE) and Faithwerks Films. Since its inception, both companies have sold and distributed well over 600+ films across the globe. Barrett then decided to start his own comedy label, The Ruckus Comedy, which now boasts talents such as Kevin Hart, Jamie fox and Academy Award-winner Monique, and Ron White, a five-time platinum selling comedian and Grammy nominee. With UHE, he has given spotlight to films that has American’s biggest stars such as Meagan Good, Zoe Saldana, Mike Epps, and Tiffany Haddish.
Now, Barrett spends a huge portion of his time doing speaking engagements and mentoring industry newcomers and veterans alike on how to work outside of the Hollywood system. Many of his clients have found huge success in independent distributing projects in both TV and film.
