Charlie Jefferson

Music composer in Edinburgh, United Kingdom

About Charlie

Charlie's subtle and emotive music has been much in demand in the field of film, television and media in recent years.

Growing up with an obsession for The Beatles' producer George Martin, his early schooling as a classical guitarist soon became enmeshed with a passion for making experimental recordings using the four track tape machines and the primitive samplers that were available in his teens.

His time at the University of Glasgow in the late 90's only served to pour fuel on the flames and Charlie began collaborating with trip hop music producers and turntablists and playing live in Glasgow's infamous night clubs, supporting artists like Jazzanova, Optimo, Mungo's Hifi and iconic dub producer Lee "Scratch" Perry.

All the while he was learning more and more about experimental composition and music production and by 2005 settled into a quieter life, beginning to work professionally as a media composer after being approached by a BBC producer to score natural history documentaries. Recognised as a talented media composer, he soon began to build up a body of work for further award winning documentaries and dramas, whilst also turning his hand to media work, most notably creating the identity music for the Comedy Central channel in the UK.

Over a decade down the line and Charlie continues to work as a soundtrack artist, though he now enjoys a more collaborative, cerebral and artistic approach when working with directors. His most recent work demonstrates his maturity as a composer, striking a balance of experimental, minimal electronic elements and the melodic classical and folk instruments he has played all of his life. The result is music that is deeply atmospheric and truly idiosyncratic. His next release 'For The Silent Ones' is due for release late 2017.

Charlie lives just outside of Edinburgh in the beautiful countryside of East Lothian, Scotland.
