DAVID GIANCOLA Biography
American filmmaker David Giancola has been an Iconoclast from an early age. In 1990 at 19, with a meager budget he shot his first feature, the cult sci-fi film “Time Chasers”. Giancola then adventured throughout the world of commercial dramatic filmmaking over the course of twenty-plus feature films. He had a perceptive gift for spotting new talent on the rise. Giancola cast the likes of Jessie Eisenberg, Kate Bosworth, Chris Evans, Paul Dano, Josh Peck, and even Billy Ray Cyrus in their first starring roles. In 2005 he continued his out-of-the-box casting style, green-lighting the campy comedy “Illegal Aliens” starring celebrity model Anna Nicole Smith. At the time, Ms. Smith was looking to reinvent herself. Two weeks into shooting the Supreme Court decided to hear her half-billion dollar divorce case, the media monster was unleashed, and the rest is history. The movie was the most covered “Indy” picture of 2007, reaching 69 on IMDB. Filming was a nightmare that ended only when Ms. Smith and her son had died, both from drug overdoses. The film flopped. His first Documentary; “Addicted To Fame” (2012) is both a hilarious and tragic personal journey of the making of “Illegal Aliens”. Theatrically released in late 2012 through indy maven Richard Abramowitz's Abramorama, the film will be available on DVD in May 2013 through Brainstorm Media in the U.S. For Giancola's part, he intends to continue to hide from the media spotlight; “until I find something really great to do next...”
