Sylvia Pilar is a singer/songwriter who has been in and out of the music scene from coast to coast. Lounges everywhere have been graced by Sylvia: Underground clubs of San Francisco, as “Zylvia”; “The Lady is a Vamp” a one woman show on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles; New York City’s La Bar Bat, Hush, TAO and off-Broadway stages throughout New York Cityhave all been graced by Sylvia. She also performed in Miami at the Aventura Performing Art Center in Miami as Edit Piaf.
Sylvia’s sound presents a unique mix of old and new. She softly scats across genres tasting new flavors from classic jazz standards and vintage pop to more contemporary lounge rhythms. Her jazzy tones infused with Latin, bossa-nova, Euro-lounge and even hip-hop beats are simply delectable, which reflects her diversity and love for various musical styles. Pilar incorporates state of the art technology and integrates it with old style concepts, and says that the melodic lyrics she writes laced with romance and mystical nuances are simply a masquerade of her relationship with the cosmos!
After many years of writing and with two songbooks registered with the Library of Congress, she decided it was time to get serious and felt compelled to record and produce her own original material along with a few favorite cover songs and released her debut CD album: “Seduxion. Like everything about Sylvia, her song collections are classic, and timeless yet hip and modern. She covers favorite songs in her splendid way with contemporary arrangements and trance grooves that morph into an illusion of Euro-lounge that SWING with thespirit of a quintessential RENAISSANCE WOMAN. Sylvia adds her own spice to the songs that ooze with total sophistication and can transition into a dance groove that gets the party on the dance floor! Her CD also includes writing and producing credits and provides the perfect blend of sweet spins on old, soothing vintage classics & flowing trance vibes.
The process of self-producing was a labor of love for Sylvia. Working with a limited budget and without band members, she set out with a grass roots approach, determined to get her songs recorded. Armed with a CD for reference, a “Song in her Heart”, and a vision of the finished product, she shopped various studios, carefully selecting multi-instrumentalist with proficient mixing skills to get the best arrangement for each song. She began recording one song at a time. Her efforts resulted in an eclectic ensemble of songs brought together by her unique voice that transcends time. Sylvia has fused sophisticated vintage qualities with contemporary grooves that result in a hip Euro-lounge genre with influences of pop/jazz and bossa rhythms.
Sylvia is a SAG-AFTRA member and is active in the performing arts. Many have called her a RENAISSANCE WOMAN as she is able to maintain many roles in her life with ease: actress, singer, model, poet, sommelier, savvy real estate agent! She is currently working on new material and revamping old standards.
