SYNOPSIS:

Four down-and-out WOMEN from across the country are lured to the office of DR. SMITH on Staten Island after receiving payments of $25,000 a piece. Once there, Smith offers them a quarter-million dollars each if they will participate in an experiment that will prove his theory on fear, evil and human nature. Despite their suspicions, the offer is too good to turn down. 'Phase One' of the experiment involves mind-bending conditioning that utilizes visual and auditory stimuli and hallucinogenic drugs that will 'program' SHANA, LEXI, GRACE and MILAGROS to experience fear at unprecedented levels when they are properly triggered. After enduring the traumatic programming, they are released into the woods where they embark on 'Phase Two'...a 'tour' of the deserted psychiatric hospitals of Staten Island in pursuit of evidence of the urban legend "Cropsey", which is centered around an escaped mental patient that murdered numerous women and children over the years. Armed with Go-Pro cameras, headlamps and a GPS, the four women must negotiate every stop on this macabre tour and complete it TOGETHER. If they do not...NONE of them will get paid. At the first two hospitals, the women encounter staged scares that are triggered by the audio/visual stimuli they were programmed with. They respond with the appropriate levels of fear but after identifying the cheap props and electronic gadgetry utilized, they laugh off the amateur theatrics. But the laughter stops when the next scare is undeniably real. No props. No gadgets. Real terror and real evidence of murder and unspeakable atrocities. Grace and Lexi, feeling the effects of the hallucinogens they only recently learned they had ingested, are the first to unravel. As each stop on their tour reveals hints that Cropsey may in fact exist, every accompanying scare chips away at the girls' sanity and loyalty to each other. When Grace is snatched and dragged off, the three remaining women realize that someone or something is stalking them and that any one of them could be next. When another horrifying encounter suggests that someone has recently filled graves with women just like them; Shana, Milagros and Lexi realize precisely how in jeopardy they are. At the next stop, which is more disturbing than the others, Lexi screams in horror as she is taken. Vanished. Gone. With only Shana and Milagros remaining, Dr. Smith informs them that if the two of them mange to finish the tour, they will get paid. So they begrudgingly press on. After falling into a pit, Milagros leaves Shana for dead but Shana, a retired Marine, crawls out and eventually catches up to Milagros and confronts her for deserting her. As they reconcile and examine the deserted hospital that hints at the savagery that transpired there, Milagros is knocked out and dragged off by...CROPSEY. He is, in fact, very real. And horrifying. When Shana attempts to rescue Milagros from certain death, she realized just how terrifying he is. Finding that Milagros is already dead, Shana barely manages to flee Cropsey and, with no other options, heads to the last stop on the tour for answers to this mystery. It is here where everything is revealed. Who Cropsey is and how he came to be. Dr. Smith's true identity. How the four women were not randomly selected but specifically chosen because of the roles their parents played in determining Cropsey's fate. And most importantly, what Smith wants for Shana...and his son...whose actual name is Crosby. A bloody confrontation between Shana and Cropsey culminates with the two of them hanging to life by a thread. Only one of them will survive. And Dr. Smith will either prove his theory about evil and human nature or prove that survival instincts can never...and will never...be denied.
