By Jamie Robinson

GENRE: Comedy

SYNOPSIS:

In the small English town of Cygninia, a lowly, rabid monarchist hairdresser with undiagnosed Narcissistic Personality Disorder and a disdain for democracy, unwittingly triggers a by-election after discovering the corpse of her beloved local MP whilst visiting him for his routine haircut. Initially, she’d rather have nothing to do with it, but she is envious of the attention the MP is getting and believes she should receive local recognition for her efforts in finding him. Not because she believes credit is due where it is due, but because she has a subconscious desire for universal admiration. Therefore, she tries to get noticed by Cygninia’s press and TV station before having a better idea; why not actually run in the election? If she were their MP, people would have no choice but to admire her, wouldn’t they? She also has an extra advantage: her autistic husband, Chris, works for Cygninia’s Administrative Board, the local government body involved in organising the event. But he’s reluctant to help her, as doing so would cost him his job and involve breaking the rules, but he also loves her and wants her to be happy. Therefore, he agrees to assist by making her run as an alter ego, Jones O’Hyphis. But it will not be easy, as Sophie’s manager, Kate, who despises her due to her differing political views, arrogance, and refusal to toe the line, will do everything in her power to ensure she gives up her silly game to become an MP and stays her subordinate. On Chris’ side, his colleague William Darcy, Viscount Cisnie, will also try to stop Chris from putting his wife on the ballot paper, despite being quite fond of him, out of respect for the system that he’s married to. in the end, she realises that she has a problem and receives the therapy she needs to truly live a better life and improve her relationships.
