Charlie Malcolm

As a born and bred Floridian, it goes without saying that I’ve witnessed some bizarre and borderline absurd happenings in my home state, but the mix of Caribbean, Latinx, and Southern culture is one of a kind and it helped shaped my unique perspective of being able to tell stories from all sides. On top of that, as the gay son of a Black Jamaican mother and a Southern white American dad, I find walking the line of cultural divide is my happy place.

The stories I tell explore themes of intersectionality, often from dueling perspectives. I believe that it’s in the gray areas of uncertainty and doubt that we can engage with audiences to explore questions they don’t often dwell on.

I got my start in the entertainment industry as a stagehand at a professional theatre where I fell in love with how lighting a black box could manifest an entire world. I later attended Florida State University’s College of Motion Picture Arts for a Master’s in Film Production. I focused on cinematography and moved to LA where I worked on several short films, music videos, and promos. I went on to become one of three ACE Student Eddie Nominees which opened doors in the world of editing.
