Michael Montgomery is a Writers Guild of America and Daytime Emmy award-winning writer. At age six, after his teenaged parent’s marriage imploded and neither one wanted to raise a child, he was adopted by his aunt and uncle. His adoptive mother struggled with mental health, eventually committing suicide. Michael was a cheerleader in high school, but not the bitchy, murdery, boozy kind depicted on most television shows (well, not murdery at least). He dropped out of college and moved out of his parent’s house when he was nineteen.
After a few years in retail, he decided (and customers agreed) it wasn’t a good fit and enrolled in community college. While working full-time at a grocery store, he transferred to the University of Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio-Television-Film. After graduation, Michael moved to L.A., was an intern at a daytime drama, worked as a CBS Page (he high-fived Bob Barker on air!) and was a bouncer at a gay club (that only lasted 2 nights) before being hired by The Young and the Restless.
On The Young and the Restless, Michael worked as a Production Associate, the Script and Story coordinator, wrote outlines and scripts, and was the Script Editor.
Michael divides his time between Los Angeles and hometown Austin, Texas, where he lives with his partner and their two chihuahuas – one loves him, the other tolerates his presence. Michael’s spousal equivalent is an Emergency Room physician and his brother-in-law is a Sergeant with APD, which makes Michael fluent in Doctor and Cop lingo.
