A young dental assistant in Beverly Hills loses herself trying to become everything others expect
her to be — until a psychosomatic breakdown forces her to confront her past, her body, and the
courage to choose her own life.
SYNOPSIS:
Beverly Hills looks perfect on the outside — success, beauty, spirituality, self-optimization.
Mel (Melanie) is right in the middle of it, working as a dental assistant, trying to please her demanding boss, her emotionally distant father, and everyone else before herself. After a breakup and ignoring her body’s warning signs, Mel collapses and is hospitalized. Told to “take care of herself, ” she misinterprets the advice and dives even deeper into spiritual self-improvement — until her symptoms force her into a psychosomatic clinic.
There, through art therapy and unexpected human connections, Mel confronts the childhood patterns that taught her love must be earned. When a sensitive gallery owner recognizes her talent, Mel faces her biggest fear: being seen without perfection, usefulness, or approval — and choosing an uncertain, authentic life over the safety of disappearing.
HER TURN explores identity, personal growth, and creative awakening, written with heart and a light, character-driven humor that complements the drama.
