KAMI JIN
By Jason Shohara

GENRE: Sci-fi
LOGLINE: The year is 2203. Corporate greed rules, inflicting poverty on the world, but one man’s dream of Utopia for all humanity is realized when he discovers paradise on Planet Xychron.

SYNOPSIS:

In the 23rd Century, A. Gordon Sakata observes that people in the Republic of North America are treated as discards – or, as he describes it, “kami jin (paper people).” With a national employment rate of 95%, people are losing their jobs daily to droids. Sounds familiar? That’s because his ordeals had its roots which actually began in the 21st Century. However, we call it “globalization.” Think about it, in Sakata’s time people are not only losing their jobs, their homes, their livelihoods. Isn’t this similar to what we are going through in today’s world? We too can be in his shoes, or, we too can become victims of the current economic crisis. It is Sakata’s warning and plead to us to make changes now, while we have a chance to do so. Sakata is an average college professor who had been laid off and also replaced by droids; worked as a handyman, lived in a homeless shantytown for the down and out. This can be the life of an unfortunate person living a hellish-life in current times. However, he is rescued by his lovely wife and taken to a distant utopian planet where he lives a heavenly new life as Emperor. Then returns to rescue the oppressed people of the Earth, proclaimed like a savior – Kami Jin (godly person).
