Mr. Reilly was born in Norristown, Pa, in 1954. For the early years of his life, his father raised race horses. From an early age, all he wanted to be was a cowboy. Attending Catholic schools, he was not a very good student, and had a penchant for getting into trouble.
After graduating high school, in 1972, he had a few jobs, but wanted to break away. Joining the U S Navy, in 1974, he got the chance to travel, and even went to sea. He was honorably discharged in 1976.
Knowing he would never amount to much in Norristown, and having done a limited amount of traveling, he began to wander. The first stop was Harrisburg, Pa, where he attended Harrisburg Area Community College for one year. This was where the writing bug bit him. He took a creative writing class, and enjoyed it. But he had no experience to draw on. So, he hit the road again.
Winding up in Texas in 1978, he met a family that was in the car business. After failing miserably as a mechanic, he learned how to sell cars, eventually taking over the management of the lot, and building it into a three car lot empire. His responsibilities included buying, selling, and repossessing cars. He became so good at tracking people down, that he even dabbled in bounty hunting for a short time.
Due to health issues in his family, he returned to Pa in 1985, going into transportation as a means of earning money. In 1987, he bought his first truck, a 1974 White, and went trucking. For the next 15 years, he ran alternately as an owner operator or company driver, logging roughly 2 million safe miles.
On April 11, 2002, after stopping at a fuel stop, Mr. Reilly became permanently disabled due to a fall. He could no longer sit long enough to make a living as a driver. After suffering for a number of years, he decided to make writing his new career. His plan had always been to drive until he was told he could no longer do that, and then write stories and submit them to magazines. But with the disability, and the advances technology had made, he wrote a book of short stories.
Magic, Luck, or Guardian Angels came out on August 30, 2007. At the time, Mr. Reilly was living in New Oxford, Pa. Although four positive book reviews were written by newspapers in the south central Pa area, the book did not sell. Always believing in Texas, Mr. Reilly bought a truck camper and hit the road yet again.
Currently living on the edge of Lake Lewisville in his truck camper, Mr. Reilly has doggedly pursued his career. Although times have been hard, he has tenaciously continued his dream of becoming a writer like his hero Louis L’Amour.
