“THE WOUNDED WARRIOR”
By Jeani DiCarlo

GENRE: Documentary
LOGLINE: Many recent documentaries have divided our society; this is a film that can unite us.

SYNOPSIS:

Today, American society is divided on almost every important issue, from politics to personal conduct. There are very few concepts or figures remaining that can powerfully bring us together by transcending the limitations of our partisan positions. One of those rare figures is Abraham Lincoln. There is so much known about him, and yet, there is so much more to learn. He was—and remains to this day—a highly controversial figure. Even now, there are those who still hate him. “The Wounded Warrior” is a documentary that relates Abraham Lincoln and the divisions of his time to our divided society today. It masterfully intertwines two eras into one… in a very haunting and emotional way. “The Wounded Warrior” is not a traditional historic documentary, but rather a vision. It is like an extended music video that brings history alive. Its form and pace are very hip and unorthodox, and as a result, it is proving to be very appealing, especially to audiences of young people. The narrator, Harold Holzer, is one of the most acclaimed Lincoln scholars of our time. Holzer relates Lincoln’s vision and his turbulent times to our present society in a very powerful and factual way. There is more controversy to Lincoln than we ever thought. There is also a great truth to Lincoln and his time that can bring us together, as he did once before.
