“THE WAR WITHIN”
By Jeani DiCarlo

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE: Every war begins and ends in a family

SYNOPSIS:

“The War Within” is a suspense thriller set on the backdrop of the American Civil War. It is a story of a family of mirror-makers who commit a murderous crime inside their home, while the Civil War rages outside. As the murdered man is dying, he puts a curse on the family: if anyone enters the house, their little boy will die. The superstitious family, tormented by their guilt and fear, prevents anyone from entering the house. The house is both sealed by the curse and trapped within an area of ongoing skirmishes between North and South. To protect her son, the once-subdued woman of the house finds a new strength and takes matters into her own hands, leading to dramatic tensions between her and the men of the house. The family of mirror-makers is enclosed in their house of murder, surrounded by mirrors that constantly remind them of the crime they committed. “The War Within” is not a typical Civil War movie. It does not involve major battle scenes or massive period sets. It focuses on the intense drama and suspense within a shattered family, mirroring the tragic war raging outside. It is an epic, played out inside a single home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “In 14 years of dealing with the best in Hollywood, ‘The War Within’ is one of the most powerful original screenplays I have ever read. It is truly a strong vision.” Elmer Biebel, Vice President Hollywood Foreign Press
