The true story of composer Jonathan Larson’s struggles in the musical theatre world, and trying to get RENT realized.
Jonathan Larson is a struggling musical composer who has yet to have a work of his produced. The only thing he really has is a self-produced rock monologue called tick, tick...BOOM! After he learns that his best friend has AIDS, he tries to find a way to help him. Soon more of his friends are being diagnosed and dying of AIDS. A young booking agent named Jeffrey Seller sees tick, tick...BOOM! and realizes there’s a talent here. He hooks Jonathan up with a playwright named Billy Aronson, who has the idea to update La Boheme. During their work together, Jonathan sees this as a perfect way to speak to those affected by AIDS.
