CANARY AMONG MINERS BY ANDRE ALFA

Synopsis: Based on a true story, this is the account of a 23 year-old French Jew who was kidnapped, brutally tortured for 23 days and killed by a gang of over 20 people, some as young as 16. As recounted by the kidnappers themselves, his story unfolds in parallel with the ordeal of his parents throughout the affair and the police's efforts to track the kidnappers. Throughout his disappearance, the police handle his case as a straightforward kidnap for ransom, consistently playing down the one detail that only later brings that motive into doubt: the fact that he was a Jew.
