About Kathy

Kathy Anderson is an award-winning playwright and fiction writer living in Philadelphia, PA. She is the author of Bull and Other Stories (Autumn House Press, 2016), longlisted for The Story Prize and finalist for Publishing Triangle's Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction, Lambda Literary Awards, and Foreword Indies Book of the Year Award.

Her plays have been produced and staged in the US and in Ireland. Her one-act play, SISSY, has a staged reading with Juniper Productions during Philly Theatre Week in 2018.

Her full-length play with co-writer Bill Felty, NEXT DOOR GAY-BORS, was featured in the 2015 Rhinoceros Theatre Festival, Curious Theatre Branch, with The Orchard Theatre Company. Her full-length play with co-writer Bill Felty, TURNPIKE, was produced by Philadelphia Theatre Workshop in 2017.

Her full-length play, FRONT ROW SEAT, premiered at the Walnut Street Theatre Studio 5 with Philadelphia Theatre Workshop in 2010 and was nominated as Best New Work in the region in the BroadwayWorld Theatre Fans’ Choice Award. After its world premiere with Philadelphia Theatre Workshop in 2007, her full-length play, INCOMING, won the Bloody Unicorn Theater Company's Queer Women's Play Contest and received a full production in September 2007 in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona. INCOMING was selected for the International Centre for Women Playwrights Chicago HER-RAH 2007: A Festival of the World's Best Women Playwrights and Their New Plays and featured in TOSOS II Robert Chesley/Jane Chambers Playwright Project in New York City in 2008.

Her short story collection was a also a 2014 finalist in the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction and the 2013 Autumn House Press Fiction Contest. Her short stories, poems, and essays have been published in international and national magazines, literary journals, and anthologies. Four of her short stories were nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
