About Daniel

Daniel Hogg is a two-time Leo Award-winning producer (Best Motion Picture, THE DEVOUT; Best Web Series, FRESHMAN'S WHARF) and a two-time Leo Nominated writer (for short films FLOODPLAIN and WOODROW, WITHOUT EVELYN).

The Leo Awards, which honour the film & television industry on the west coast of Hollywood North, lauded THE DEVOUT with seven awards, in addition to Best Picture, from 14 nominations, including Best Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress. THE DEVOUT premiered internationally at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival (known as the "Cannes of Asia") as one of just ten films in competition for their top international prize, won Best Canadian Feature Film at Victoria Film Festival, and the BC Emerging Filmmaker Award at Vancouver International Film Festival for director Connor Gaston.

TWO 4 ONE, the first feature he produced, has screened at over 40 film festivals around the globe, earning Audience or Jury Awards in Seattle, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Melbourne, Amsterdam, Whitehorse, and Victoria, Canada, and an ACTRA Award, a Leo Award and 8 other nominations.

All told, Daniel earned another 4 Leo nominations for producing or screenwriting, and won the 2012 NSI Drama Prize to write and produce the short FLOODPLAIN, selected as part of Telefilm Canada's Not Short on Talent showcase at Cannes. His current development slate is funded by Telefilm Canada, the Harold Greenberg Fund, and Movie Central in Canada.

A UCLA Professional Program (Screenwriting) and UVic Writing alumnus, Daniel's tongue-in-cheek creature-feature script RIP MY HEART OUT was named to the inaugural Movie Central and National Screen Institute of Canada's Script-to-Screen program. His western yarn SIX-CHAMBER HEART, about an aging cowboy hunting his murderous outlaw son in the old west, was a finalist in the Praxis Screenplay Competition and a semi-finalist in Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope Screenplay Competition.

Before refocusing as a creative producer, Daniel was a Director of Photography on over 40 short films & award-winning music videos. His work has has broadcast nationally in Canada on MuchMusic and its affiliate channels, screened in festivals across North America, and been represented in several regional award-winners and nominees.

Daniel has served as president of Cinevic Society of Independent Filmmakers, edited documentary and narrative film, assistant-directed features and shorts, and been directing films since 2000.
