About Vernon

Herbie Hancock once said, “Music happens to be an art form that transcends language”, and house music DJ ad producer, Vernon Douglas, has definitely made Vancouver’s strong electronic dance music community his canvas.

Beginning with an insatiable thirst for finding new music as a child, Vernon was led to the sounds of hip hop, industrial music, early house, Detroit techno and the Warp records sound from the UK. It wasn’t until he experienced the local club culture, that he became fascinated with mixing continuous grooves, which would start his DJ career and long standing love affair with the house music sound, influenced by the DJ styles of Tyler Stadius, Robert Shea, Jeno, Doc Martin, and Chez Damier.

In his 20 years as a DJ, Vernon Douglas has played at numerous raves, afterhours, and clubs throughout the city of Vancouver, which led to shows across Canada, through the Northwest US, and down to the Cayman Islands. His 7+ year residency at the legendary club night, Deepen at the Lotus Sound Lounge was a platform to showcase top international names in house music, playing alongside local masters of the craft. Vernon has played with the industry’s prominent talents including, Tyler Stadius, Jay Tripwire, Terry Francis, Asad Rizvi, Dave Mothersole, Evil Eddie Richards, Noah Pred, Mark Ambrose, Juan Atkins, Swayzak and many more. He has also been featured as the headlining act at renowned BC outdoor music festival, Shambala.

His multi-dimensional DJ sets, stretch from stripped down techno, to jacking acid, Chicago funk, in the groove deep house, and the occasional classic thrown in for good measure. His tracks all have one thing in common: They bear a lineage back to Jack himself. A futuristic dance party, energized with funk, soul and emotion that is sure to move the mind as much as the ass.

In addition to countless DJ mixes, his productions have been featured on OM records, Tim Fuller’s “The Slightest Touch” album by Bombay Records, and on his own Deepen Discs label.

Currently, Vernon Douglas can be found back in the studio, producing exclusively for Deepen Sound records. With his obscure synths, vintage drum machines and state of the art grooves, this DJ, promoter, producer and label exec will continue to be a leading force in dance music.
