After completing her artistic training at the Ontario College of Art and Design receiving a BFA, in Toronto, Ontario, followed by an MFA at the University of Calgary, in Calgary Alberta, Shawna Reiter continues to cultivate a hybrid practice that integrates her artistic training with her curiosity and passion for physical theatre. Reiter’s research has lead her in the creation of large-scale sculpture, robotic puppet installation, interactive video animation, and performance in clown, physical, and puppet theatre. She has exhibited work in Ontario and Alberta, at the Whitby Station Gallery, the Nickle Arts Museum, and the New Gallery. She has also expanded her research through residencies at The Banff Centre and TRUCK Artist Run Centre, and explored her interest in physical theatre through collaborative projects, presented at the Green Fools Theatre. Reiter has taught art at various educational institutions including: the University of Calgary as instructor for studio practices of the second year Art in Education course; the Durham Board of Education through the ArtsSmarts program in both high school and public school environments. She has also held workshops in Object Manipulation and Mechanics for Artists at TRUCK Artist Run Centre and Humber College, and continues to teach at various community art programs. Shawna is currently a Co-Artistic Director at CLUNK Puppet Lab.
