SYNOPSIS:

MIDNIGHT CHILD Jackie Midnight, a charismatic pimp from London, moves his high-end prostitution ring to San Francisco in order to go international. When one of his teenage call girls is tortured and beheaded during an S&M encounter, Midnight orders the contract killing of the foreign diplomat who was responsible. Blaming Midnight for the call girl’s death, her best friend provides damning testimony of Midnight’s sex trade to Helen Prescott, the attractive yet tenacious assistant D.A. At his arraignment, Midnight recognizes Helen as one of his former prostitutes and his main lady from his days in Soho. Free on bail, Midnight corners Helen in an underground garage and threatens to expose her seamy past if she doesn’t drop the case against him. Confiding in Rawlins, a homicide cop transferred from New Orleans, Helen makes the fateful decision to proceed with Midnight’s trial. Enraged, Midnight sicks his cross-dressing enforcer on the call girl’s best friend who winds up knifed to death moments before she’s to testify. With the prosecution’s star witness dead and only hearsay evidence left, the judge dismisses the conspiracy case against Midnight. Seeking payback, Midnight kidnaps Helen’s teenage daughter Nichole. Unable to secure a wiretap, Rawlins bribes a skateboarding hacker to tap into Midnight’s phone records. With this information, Rawlins tracks down Midnight to a meet with Yamashita, the head of the Yakuza – the Japanese mafia. Midnight agrees to supply Yamashita teenage prostitutes for his Tokyo bath houses. To seal the deal Midnight offers up Nichole as a gift to Yamashita. Backed up by SWAT, Rawlins crashes the meeting and arrests Midnight. Yamashita however escapes with Nichole and hightails it back to Japan. With the police and the State Department unable to locate her daughter, Helen visits Midnight in jail and drops a bomb on him – that Nichole is his biological daughter. Skeptical at first, Midnight eventually gives up Nichole’s whereabouts – Yamashita’s fortified estate outside of Tokyo. Midnight convinces Helen that without his help she will never see their daughter again. Risking their careers, Helen and Rawlins break Midnight out of jail & fly him to Japan on forged documents. Bickering and on the lam in a foreign country, Midnight, Helen and Rawlins hole up in a sleazy hotel room on the Ginza strip. Working up a plan, Midnight and Helen crash a white tie event on Yamashita’s estate. Hobnobbing with the world’s wealthiest, they witness their daughter Nichole auctioned off to a sadistic Russian mobster. Helen wigs out. Midnight can barely restrain her. Seconds before Nichole is to be raped and tortured, Midnight and Helen rescue their daughter in a blazing gun battle. With Rawlins providing more firepower, the foursome find themselves outnumbered by armed guards and attack dogs. Desperate, Midnight slams the getaway car into the pursuing vehicles. A fiery explosion kills Midnight, but provides precious seconds for the others to escape. Back in San Francisco, Helen fills Nichole in on her complicated father. Although Midnight was a ruthless criminal, he found redemption in laying down his life for a daughter who barely knew him. Having both been fired from their jobs, Rawlins suggests to Helen that they move to his hometown of New Orleans and open a blues bar. Finding happiness with one another, Helen and Nichole embark with Rawlins on their new adventure together.
