About Hoji

Hoji Fortuna was born in Angola (southwest Africa) and lived in Portugal for 14 years, before moving to New York to pursue a career in acting.

He started his career as a comedy actor in 2001 after winning a reality show in Portugal. There, Hoji mostly worked in TV, but also some in theatre.

In 2008 Hoji traded beautiful laid-back Lisbon for busy charismatic New York and have s
ince been working in film, TV and theatre in the U.S. and abroad.

He won an African Oscar for a performance as Cesar in Viva Riva! (Best African Film at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards; winner of six African Oscars and official selection at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and 2011 Berlin International Film Festival). The movie is currently on Netflix after U.S. and international theatrical distribution.

In addition to Viva Riva! Hoji has performed in director Hal Hartley’s feature film Meanwhile, in ABC series Pan Am and more recently in upcoming feature film In The Morning by director Nefertite Nguvu.

Hoji is also the author of New York for Actors, a manual for new, aspiring and foreign actors interested in developing a career in the U.S. in general and New York in particular. The book can be found on the iBookstore or on .
