SYNOPSIS:

Cass Westfield is a happily married 37 year old woman with a teenage daughter, Scarlet Rose, who changes her mind about attending her college class reunion after she hears from Mike Aviara, her former college lover. Her husband, Charles, has been unemployed for six months and shows Cass little attention. She feels unwanted, unappreciated, and unloved. During the reunion Mike and Cass flirt with each other that leads to their first affair. Though she thinks it is understood to be a simple one time fling, he has other ideas. Cass explains that they must never see each other again and thinks the affair is forgotten, but Mike shows up again for a second affair the next day. After the second fling she tells him again to leave her alone, but he is not convinced of her certainty. He is accustomed to getting what he wants, so he has someone look into her background. The investigation discovers that he is the father of Scarlet Rose, conceived during Cass and his senior year in college, something Cass has kept secret for all these years. A week after the reunion, Mike puts into motion a plan to permanently be with Cass and Scarlet Rose. He arranges a job interview for Charles that quickly leads to a job offer with First Floor Solar. His obsession escalates further when he pays First Floor Solar's Human Resource manager to have an affair with Charles and to video tape it entirely. Then, the HR manager is suddenly killed to put the blame on Charles. Charles is the likely suspect. After a third affair between Mike and Cass he tells her he knows he is Scarlet Rose's father and he implies there is something she should know about her husband. Enraged, she asks him to leave. Before he goes, Mike gives her an ultimatum; leave Charles or else he will tell him about their affairs and his relationship to Scarlet Rose. Cass and Charles pay an emotional price by keeping their secrets from each other. Before sunrise a few days later, Mike breaks into the Westfield resident to force Cass and Scarlet Rose at gunpoint to go away with him. Oddly, Charles is not in bed with Cass, but someplace else in the house. Only Cass and Charles know that he suffers from sleepwalking, and at the present time is in one of his sleep terror trances. Charles barges into the bedroom to stop Mike from taking his family away from him. Mike shoots Charles but the impact is insufficient. Charles overpowers him, eventually strangling Mike to death. Charles is charged with murder, but his defense attorney successfully wins a pretrial motion to dismiss the case based on the State's self-defense law. In the end, Cass and Charles sit on a balcony one early morning. They ask each other for forgiveness of past conduct and promise from this day forward to be honest with each other, yet they have no idea what the other specifically means. They embrace, kiss each other sweetly on the lips, and return to their bed. They smile as they look at a bedside picture of Charles, Cass, and Scarlet Rose.
