About Robin

I have an established reputation for my work as a composer/arranger, musical director, performer and educator. I have been professionally active in film, television, radio, theatre and concert music and have worked with some of the finest professional soloists and ensembles in their specialist areas of expertise.

I work in a wide range of idioms, and he has received commissions from many named artists (Lisa Stansfield, Paul Young), ensembles (Hallé Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Black Dyke Band, Bands of Her Majesty's Royal Marines, BBC Radio Big Band ), and media clients (BBC, Granada, Yorkshire TV and Channel 4). My choral and band works, published variously by Max Music, Gramercy Music, Big Bands Limited (UK), Lake Music (NL) and WoodBrass (SA) are in demand internationally and receive regular concert performances, recordings and broadcasts.

I have worked regularly in studio sessions as performer, composer/arranger and musical director whilst undertaking recording projects, television broadcasts and live concert series featuring soloists including Lisa Stansfield, Paul Young, Ronnie Scott, Kenny Baker, Don Lusher and Tommy Whittle, Bryn Terfel, Martin Taylor, Georgie Fame, Andy Prior, Wycliffe Gordon, Jens Lindemann and James Morrison.

I have been an external consultant for many HE institutions across the UK, and am currently External Examiner for the University of Chester. I won the Marty Paitch Arranging Prize (BBC Radio Big Band Competition) back in 1990, and in 1994, I completed a Masters degree with distinction, under the supervision of composer Gavin Bryars, exploring the music of Gil Evans. I gained a Doctorate in Musical Arts in 2006 and, in 2007, was appointed Honorary Music Advisor to Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Band Service, a prestigious role last occupied by SIr Malcolm Arnold. I have been Composer in Residence for Stavanger Band (Norway) and, for many years, has been actively engaged as a Senior Lecturer in Music and Head of Jazz and Popular Music Performance and Programme Director for the DMA at the University of Salford, England.

I live with my family in Stockport, Cheshire, UK.
