THE DRUID'S WRATH

THE DRUID'S WRATH
By Catherine Fridey

GENRE: Fantasy, Thriller
LOGLINE:

Two Irish brothers, an archaeologist and a pagan priest, clash over ideas of logic and faith as well as the woman they both love, but must thwart the schemes of a greedy hotel developer after the discovery of the ancient burial site of a powerful druid.

SYNOPSIS:

In this supernatural fantasy, Des O’Toole goes to work as usual one day on a hotel construction site in Ireland, climbs into his landmover, and almost tumbles into an ancient burial site containing a man’s body and valuable treasure. His brother Alan, a respected archaeologist who works for a prestigious English university, comes home to take charge of the excavation. He and Des butt heads over ideas of faith and logic. Alan will discover that Des is an apprentice Druid (pagan priest) who believes the site is sacred and should be left alone.

Another element of their conflict is jeweler Aine Lynch. She is with Des now but still carries a torch for Alan, with whom she shares a special connection. Alan starts to struggle with disturbing dreams (or are they visions?) having to do with the burial, and Celtic mythology in general. In addition, his brother’s secrecy is unnerving. He follows Des one night deep into the woods, where Des meets with some men. Before Alan can solve the mystery of their presence there, a mysterious woman, who turns out to be a goddess, appears and puts him into a trance. Aine fills him in that Des is on the path to becoming a Druid. A promising career, Alan jokes. To add to his troubles, he must also confront William Hayes, the greedy hotel developer in charge of the site who gives Alan and his merry crew (Jill, Davey, and Sean) precious little time to excavate. And it does not help that his overprotective “Mam” still treats Alan and Des like wee little boys instead of grown men.

Although intellectual Alan is at first skeptical about magic and folklore, he must finally face the facts, as he runs into strange phenomena at the excavation site, among others. He and hothead Des finally put aside their differences and unite to thwart William’s scheme to sell some of the priceless buried treasure on the black market. They get creative help from Alan’s team and Aine, who must finally make her choice between the two brothers (it's Alan), as well as from supernatural spirits, who show up for a spectacular showdown. The body turns out to be that of a powerful druid king who appears in spirit, and is angry at having been disturbed from his resting place. Research about his DNA reveals startling information. Alan and Des are actually descended from this ancient ancestor. Alan comes away from the experience with new feelings about his heritage and roots and decides to stay in Ireland.

This sounds fun! Could the hotel developer be a woman - who maybe has (or tries to have) a relationship with one of the brothers? Lots of cool potential here - best of luck!
