A precocious young girl develops an unexpected friendship with an artist as they both deal with issues of acceptance and abandonment. Believing her mother left the family because of her brother’s Down Syndrome, the girl seeks a cure through research into the bovine genome and, in the process, finds comfort in the artist’s own struggles.
