DAZZLELAND

DAZZLELAND
By Amy Amani

GENRE: Drama, Fantasy
LOGLINE:

Claire, one of the many ghosts who call the derelict amusement park, Dazzleland, home foresees the coming of a dangerous new resident, the park's imminent destruction, and the uncovering of clues to her own murder. She must forge an alliance between the living and the dead in order to save her home and bring her murderer to justice.

SYNOPSIS:

Dazzleland amusement park has always been a haven for the dead. After decades of disuse and decay a land developer shows a sudden interest in tearing it down. Neal, an up-and-comer in the land development game arrives to assess the property. Ethereal Claire tries to scare him away by giving him a freezing kiss. But Neal is determined to prove himself to his boss and he is undeterred. However, his plans of being in this small town for only a day or two are dashed when he accidentally kills a local teen outside the park fence and is detained for vehicular manslaughter.

Neal's fiancé and the boss’ daughter, Danielle, steps up to assist Neal and uncovers more than she bargained for: a cold case murder that took place in the park decades ago. All the evidence points to her father as the murderer. Danielle joins forces with Neal, the other ghosts, and the local sheriff to solve the mystery and keep the park from being demolished.

The murdered girl is Claire, the very same ghost who kissed Neal. However, her revenge is not directed at Neal, but at the teen-aged boy who appears in her Mutoscope machine – her murderer. Claire has been hunting down her own murderer for decades, nominally assisted by the mysterious Protector. The circle of suspects is tightening and include Danielle's father.

The first season deals with two main arcs: the ghosts’ battle to save their home from beyond the grave; and the mystery of why developers have a sudden interest in tearing Dazzleland down, eg: Claire's murder.

The Big Mystery for the season revolves around Claire's murder, referenced by the black and white photo she sees in the Mutoscope of a pair of young men and two young women. For most of the season it appears that the young man in the photo with his arm around the girls is Danielle's father, Alexander Stone, as a teen-ager. If the murder were to come to light he would be ruined, and evidence of the murder is in Dazzleland. But in the end it is actually Richard Dunsmore, his right-hand man, who committed the murder and framed his oldest friend.

Each episode of Season 1 focuses on a different character: exploring their back story, how they died, their relationships with other residents of the Park, and how they are involved, directly or indirectly, with the murder mystery. Some of these characters include living souls, whose relationships with the dead make up an important part of their lives, whether they are aware of it or not.
