About David

David Chester is an American screenwriter and prize-winning short filmmaker based in Tokyo. He writes female-driven dramas focusing on dysfunctional families. To date, he has written eight commissioned features (two in production, six produced, streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Lifetime). His original screenplays BIG SISTER and TILLIE have been multi-finalists in screenwriting competitions and his short “The Lesson” won the Tokyo Rainbow Reel “Grand Prix” and Torino GLBT Film Festival “Best Short Film.” David’s writing has benefitted greatly fromCorey Mandell's screenwriting courses, Roadmap Writers’ Top Tier group and mentoring by writer/producer Ellen Sandler (“Everybody Loves Raymond”).

Unique traits: -Have extensive professional background in the music business. -Am also a professional pianist and songwriter. -Have a deep understanding of Japanese culture (have lived in Tokyo for over two decades).
