PREDATORS OR PREY?
By Scott Harper

GENRE: Action, Adventure, Drama, Horror
LOGLINE: Wendy Markland and Jacob Iverson are con artists pretending to be vampire hunters, until they are forced to deal with real vampires.

SYNOPSIS:

Wendy and Jacob, along with Glen—Wendy’s little brother—are beginning the newest “case” of the vampire hunter con game they run. Usually, Wendy and Jacob leave Glen somewhere reasonably safe for the night, and wander local graveyards in the hopes of locals seeing them “working”. After a couple of nights of this, they return to their “client” with animal teeth, and a wooden stake stained with stage blood. These things are offered as proof of the slain vampire. They collect their money and move on. This time however, they run afoul of a cultus of real vampires, and are taken prisoner. In the ensuing struggle, they manage to kill one of their abductors. The leader of the cultus, a very old vampire, decides to turn Wendy and Jacob to replace the lost member of his group. They escape, starting a fire in the vampire’s lair in the process. They think the fire has killed the leader of the cultus. Afterwards, they go on the run, trying to keep ahead of the vampires, not knowing what to do. Soon after, they meet with a man named Morgan Teague. He claims to be a vampire hunter who has tracked them down for the dual reasons of wanting to protect them, and wanting to eliminate the cultus chasing them. Wendy and Jacob don’t have good a feeling about him, but reluctantly agree to work with him. They continue running, growing more uneasy about Teague, finally sending him away. The following morning Jacob’s van is found destroyed, stranding them. Soon after, Glen is kidnapped by vampires, and returned to Wendy as a vampire. She accidentally kills him, and is devastated. When she begins to think more clearly, Wendy decides it’s time to stop running. She opts to stop acting as the prey, and become the predator. Jacob stays with her only for personal safety, and finally realizes Teague’s secret—the man is a werewolf, sent by the vampires. This betrayal further motivates Wendy. She kills Teague, and continues tracking the vampires. In the end, the cultus leader is slain, as are most of his followers. Wendy, less than satisfied, plans to keep hunting, feeling a need to further avenge Glen’s death. This ending leaves things open for a film adaptation of the second book in the series, of which the book "Predators or Prey?" begins. The second book is titled "Necromancer".
