JOHN SAGE is a U.S. Marshal and widower running out of time to save any
semblance of a family. Burdened by a family secret he carries and guilt
ridden over the loss of a wife, he's buried himself in his work. Then
his son dies of an apparent drug overdose and he learns CARLOS VEGA, a
young rising Mexican Drug Cartel boss is behind it. It reignites an old
Sage-Vega border feud. After a bid to bring CARLOS VEGA to justice
fails, John quits the U.S. Marshal's Service and returns to the Sage
family homestead and cattle ranch on the U.S. - Mexico border.
Then KATIE, his rebellious teenage daughter, is "kidnapped" by Carlos.
John saddles up one last time to ride into the Sierra Madres to rescue
his daughter and settle an old score with the Vegas. He quickly finds
himself with an uninvited posse of current and former law officers and
Katie's boyfriend. They all want to get Carlos, but for different
reasons. When Katie is rescued, they discover she does not want to go
home and she escapes back to Carlos. Soon Katie realizes she has made a
deadly mistake as she learns that Carlos is using her as bait to lure
John into the Sierra Madres where he intends to kill her and her father.
Carlos taunts John telling him Katie is pregnant with his son, and,
later he tells John that Katie has died. John's rescue mission turns
into a recovery mission. However, it was Katie's girlfriend who died,
and Katie escapes again and contacts her father. Carlos recaptures her,
cutting her plea for help short.
The hunt takes them deep into Devil's Valley to a heavily fortified Vega
Plantation and Compound. John realizes that setting Katie free from
Carlos may mean he and Katie will die, but it is better then Katie
living with Carlos. John is "captured" and brought face-to-face with
Carlos. Carlos reveals the answer to the family secret that John has
chased his entire life for his grandfather - a promise of family
justice. With the help of posse members, the tables quickly turn on
Carlos and in the final moments Carlos faces his biggest fear - water,
and pleads to be killed. In a surprise twist, Carlos comes face to face
with his half-sister and learns that in avenging the loss of his
grandparents and mother, he's unknowingly killed his mother - and dying
would be the easy way out, his "family justice" will be to die a slow
death in hell on earth.
