About Rebecca

Being brave, open-minded, and curious can open the most interesting doors. So can practice, persistence, and hard work.

I have been involved with the performing arts as a performer, presenter, crew, or producer more often than not since I was very young. I've always loved the arts because it gives me a space to play, to explore, and to learn. And it's just fun.

Despite growing up studying classical ballet and participating in choirs, I never planned to become a professional performer. In fact, my degrees are in math education and museum science. And when an injury ended my dancing days, it became an excuse to focus on my teaching...with some persuasion from museum and training people I was working with to consider voice acting. (As acting was my weak performing art in school, I passed.)

But any born performer will tell you walking away is never that simple. And I had already started working on show production and curricula for educational events., so it didn't come as much of a surprise a couple of years after YouTube launched when I sat down and started teaching myself how to make videos, eventually creating Dead Bunny Guides, a hyperlinked math video textbook.

Friends kept hounding me to try voice acting, even badgering me to attend a local pair of workshops. And when my teaching career started struggling in 2011, I gave in and auditioned with the Washington Talking Book & Braille Library, just to prove everyone wrong. Ironically, it turned out I was the one who was wrong. Lesson learned.

Since then, I've narrated over two dozen science fiction, fantasy, and children's lit audiobooks, producing nearly two-thirds of them myself. And I've discovered that animation, video games, and audio dramas are doable...and incredibly fun to work on. There's something about channeling my confident, youthful gravitas and love of geeky genres and arts into a variety of characters who are often clever, sarcastic, a little nerdy, or down to earth.

When I'm not working on outside projects, I'm developing and producing my own projects. They're mostly science fiction and fantasy stories and audio shorts shared on wattpad, Instagram, and YouTube, but they've been very educational and satisfying to experiment with.
